Hakodate is a city in the southern part of the northern part of Japan called Hokkaido. This Ika odori don is their famous food. A fresh killed squid served on rice with ikura, wasabi and shiso. When you pour soy sauce on it, it moves. This is not because it is alive, but it is because of a reaction in the cells. Some animals when killed the sells remain active and will move when come in contact with salt. This is why it moves so much when you pour the salty soy sauce on it. So now that you know this, I hope not to see ignorant comments calling the people who live in Japan "cruel" or what not. There is no pain and just because your culture does things differently doesn't make your culture right. If you think its disrespectful to the animal to do this, so be it, I just hope you eat all parts of your kill, because here in Japan we think its disrespectful to waste food. Now you can have your opinion and we can have ours, but rude comments will be removed. So if you don't have nothing nice to say, just move along and have a nice day :)
